Our VDP.Erste Lagen ®

Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker

Only the best plots of Herrgottsacker are selected for our VDP.Erste Lage. In a 2005 planted fillet piece we harvest the grapes significantly yield-reduced. Among the VDP.Erste Lage our Herrgottsacker is always the tightest, the most meagre wine.

Soil: The soil is clearly marked by variegated sandstone and loess, occasionally there are limestone veins - good drainage.

Deidesheimer Mäushöhle

Variegated sandstone is the main feature in this site also, although the vineyard lies in a hollow opening to the east. The hollow lies at the end of a valley. Through the erosion of forest soil, the soil in the Mäushöhle vineyard is greatly enriched with humus, which explains the density of the wine.

Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten

On 120-170 meter Paradiesgarten is stretched in south-east direction right over Deidesheim. Its weathered soils of red and yellow variegated sandstone are the reason for the fineness and balance of the wines. Our plot Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten is located below the site Deidesheimer Langenmorgen and belongs to the site Langenmorgen until 1971. For this reason the Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten was classified as a VDP.Grosses Gewächs until vintage 2012. We have decided to end this special position and market the wine now as a VDP.Erste Lage. The Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten was the first single site wine from „Reichsrat von Buhl“, which we launched only in the second year after harvest.

Forster Musenhang

Our coolest site on the edge of the forest of Forst captivates with its typical limestone minerality. Sandstone and limestone, occassionally some basalt from the nearby „Pechsteinkopf“. The proximity to the forest makes the Musenhang to our coolest vineyard.

Deidesheimer Leinhöhle

Here too the site name gives the bearing. The women of Deidesheim used to use this warmest of sites to bleach their linen cloths. Its 100% south facing and sloped location mean that air temperatures of 50°C and more are not a rarity. Grapes that flourish here incorporate this heat, have mature fruit aromas and sophisticated, balanced acidity.
