since 1849

Since its founding, Reichsrat von Buhl Winery has been known for its fine Rieslings from the best sites in the Mittelhaardt region. Before long, the Von Buhl name developed into a promise of quality.

At the official opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, it was a Von Buhl Riesling, at that time one of the most highly priced wines in the world, served for the customary toast. We are devoted to this legacy, and therefore we feel committed to continue shaping our history with both heart and devotion. Day after day. Day after day.

“If you haven’t been to the Buhl estate, you don’t know what Forster Riesling is.”

Unique Soils &
Grands Crus

Our goal is to make the origin of the grapes, the ‘terroir’ (as an expression of soil, climate, plants, human work, culture and tradition), as a tangible quality in our organic wines and sparkling wines.

The History

A Journey Through Time

The estate was founded in 1849 by Franz Peter Buhl (1809-1862). and was formed from the distribution of the original Jordan Estate into the three smaller estates; Geheimer Rat Dr. Von Bassermann-Jordan, Reichsrat von Buhl and Dr. Deinhard (today Weingut von Winning).

Our wines still ferment in the ancient estate cellar, just as they did more than a hundred years ago. Even though we do not reject progress, our goal is still the same as it was back then; to bring the character of the grape and vineyard, unaltered and pure into your glass.
